Dear Members,
Following our Annual General Meeting and Special General Meeting on 27 August, the Management Committee and office staff have been hard at work implementing the resolutions passed on the night. We still have positions available on the Management Committee for anyone interested in helping steer the Club into its next chapter. The roles are not as daunting as they may seem, and the support from current Committee members ensures a smooth and welcoming transition. Please contact me if you’d like to learn more.
The winding up of the Sailing Club and the integration of their assets and processes into the Yacht Club will require some administrative effort, but we expect this to be finalised in the coming months. The outgoing Sailing Club executive is also seeking volunteers for the new Sailing Committee to assist with coordinating our annual yacht racing regattas, the weekly SAGS racing, and liaison between WMYC and Australian Sailing. These roles are less formal than those on the former Sailing Club Committee, so if you can help, please reach out to our office staff for further information.
Our transition to the new café and bar service model is progressing at full speed. Recruitment for key staff is well underway, and we are actively sourcing local providers for food and coffee. We anticipate an almost seamless launch of the new Wynnum Manly Yacht Club café and bar at the end of October. We look forward to welcoming Club Members and our local community as they continue to enjoy this wonderful venue.
We are now seeing the benefits of years of planning, development approvals, and construction. These efforts are delivering improved facilities, enhanced security, and a vibrant social calendar for our members.
I look forward to catching up with you around the Club or out on the water.

John Vandermaat

We would like to let members and guests know about some exciting changes coming to the WMYC Café from the end of October.
Firstly, we would like to sincerely thank Pinky, who has advised us that she will be leaving to pursue new opportunities. Pinky has been a valued part of the café and club community, and we are grateful for the passion, commitment and friendly service she has brought to members and visitors over the years. We wish her every success in this next chapter.
As we farewell Pinky, we are also looking forward to welcoming a new Food & Beverage team and an expanded menu offering.
Members can continue to enjoy the same fantastic harbour-side location, with a refreshed menu featuring:
☕ Great coffee and cakes 🍳 New breakfast and lunch options 🍹 Sundowner drinks 🍽️ Friday and Saturday evening dining 🎉 Exciting event and function menus
These changes are designed to create an enjoyable experience for members, guests and visitors, while making the most of one of the club's most popular spaces.
We look forward to sharing more details in the coming weeks and welcoming everyone to the next chapter of the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club. |

Members are advised that works on the ramp pontoon will resume on Monday, 14 September, as part of the ongoing improvement project. During this stage, new pontoon modules will be installed and integrated into the existing walkway, enhancing the facility for members and visitors.
To allow contractors safe access to complete the installation, the ramp will be temporarily unavailable from 6:00am to 10:00am on Monday, 14 September. The remaining works are expected to be completed within one week.
We appreciate your patience and understanding while these important upgrades are carried out and look forward to delivering an improved facility for our boating community.
For your safety, please follow all site signage and directions from project personnel during these times. |

The Bendigo Bank Community Raffle is back for 2026, and this year Wynnum Manly Yacht Club is proud to be supporting Men's Mental Health.
In addition to your support through purchasing tickets, we're also seeking volunteers to sell ticket's around the Club when they are here.
Why we need your support
Many members will remember the popular WMYC Men's Breakfast, which brought men from across the club together over a BBQ and a coffee. More than just a social catch-up, these breakfasts created opportunities for connection, conversation and support, giving members a chance to talk about what's happening in their lives and look out for one another.
To help bring this valuable initiative back, WMYC has joined more than 55 community and not-for-profit organisations across the Bayside and Redlands regions participating in the Bayside Community Fund's fundraising raffle, proudly sponsored by the Community Bank Victoria Point and Wynnum Manly branches of Bendigo Bank.
Fantastic Cash Prizes to Be Won
There are 13 cash prizes up for grabs:
🥇 1st Prize – $15,000 Cash 🥈 2nd Prize – $3,000 Cash 🥉 3rd Prize – $2,000 Cash 🎉 4th to 13th Prizes – $1,000 Cash each
Every Ticket Makes a Difference
Tickets are just $5 each, and best of all, 100% of proceeds from WMYC ticket sales will go towards creating a dedicated BBQ area for members and reinstating regular Men's Breakfast events.
We encourage you to email office@wmyc.com or drop in and see Declan and Alyce if you would like to assist with Raffle ticket sales.

The Management Committee met on 8 September and discussed a range of operational, financial and strategic matters, including:
- Stage 1 building works are nearing completion, with signage, line marking, bike racks and landscaping completed. Remaining items include roof and glass repairs and finishing works.
- Progress continues on the Esplanade Engagement project, with design work finalised and documentation being prepared for development approval and TMR consent.
- The club's new solar system has significantly reduced electricity costs, with August power charges falling to around $262 compared with previous average monthly bills of approximately $1,270.
- WMYC continues to challenge the State Government's site valuation increase and has engaged specialist advisors to assist with the next stage of the process.
- Following the Special General Meeting, work is underway to complete the re-unification of WMYC and WMSC, with final paperwork being prepared for the Office of Fair Trading.
- Planning and recruitment are progressing for the club to commence operating its own café and food service from late October.
- Planning for the 2026 St Helena Cup is well underway, with strong early sponsorship support and entries already being received.
- The Committee approved a proposal to improve fencing and security along the south-eastern boundary to help prevent unauthorised access at low tide.

The Management Committee thanks all members, volunteers and staff for their continued support as we progress these important projects and initiatives for the club. |

Most Sunday afternoons, we hit the water as part of the SAGS series, a relaxed, friendly pursuit-style racing program enjoyed year-round. Beyond Sundays, WMSC also hosts a variety of race series and regattas across the season, with sailors of all experience levels always welcome to join the action.

For many Queensland sailors, some events need no introduction. They simply arrive on the calendar each year, carrying with them decades of memories, friendships and competition.
The St Helena Cup is one of those events. For some, it's an opportunity to measure themselves against some of the state's best sailors. For others, it's the chance to enjoy tactical racing on Moreton Bay, represent their club, or reconnect with the friends onshore they may only see a handful of times each year.
As preparations continue for the 2026 St Helena Cup, the fleet is already beginning to take shape. Whether you're a long-time competitor or considering your first visit to Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, now is the time to make sure the dates are marked in your diary.
If you haven't already entered, now is the time to get your entry in.

Ready to experience Moreton Bay after dark? The Kingfisher Night Series is back for 2026–27, bringing four nights of challenging and exciting yacht racing to the Bay.
Running since 1989, the series was created by sailors from the Moreton Bay yacht clubs to give skippers and crews the opportunity to build their skills and experience racing at night—navigating changing conditions, darkness and the unique challenges of the Bay after sunset.
With four races of approximately 35 nautical miles, each starting at 1500 hrs, the series is a fantastic opportunity to put your boat and crew to the test while enjoying some of the best sailing Moreton Bay has to offer.
2026–27 Race Dates
📍 Race 1: 24 October – QCYC 📍 Race 2: 21 November – MCC 📍 Race 3: 20 February – MBBC 📍 Race 4: 20 March – WMYC
A big thank you to Queensland Cruising Yacht Club, Manly Cruising Club, Moreton Bay Boat Club and Wynnum Manly Yacht Club for working together to organise and deliver this long-running series.
We’d also like to thank Kingfisher Bay Resort, for supporting the 2026 Kingfisher Night Race Series with some fantastic prizes. Three lucky winners will each receive a two-night stay in Resort Hotel accommodation, including return passenger ferry transfers, with each prize package valued at $770 including GST.
Whether you're a seasoned night racer or keen to give it a go, get your crew together and join us for the Kingfisher Night Series.
