Commodore's Message
Dear Members,
As we begin a new membership year, it’s exciting to be stepping forward together into the next chapter of our Club.

I’m very pleased to share that the vote to reunify the Sailing Club and the Yacht Club was passed on Tuesday night, marking an important milestone for our community. This positive outcome allows us to simplify how we operate and reduce the fees for Sailing Members to $60 for this year.
Membership renewal notices have now been issued, and we look forward to welcoming everyone as part of one unified WMYC.

Our Art Awards are shaping up to be a standout event. Entries close over the weekend, with a strong mix of emerging and established artists already confirmed. Members are encouraged to visit the free exhibition in the clubhouse from 19 June to 2 July, with a special Gala evening on the 27th June featuring live music from Salliana Seven and award presentations for the show. Volunteers to help with this event are welcome and will receive a complimentary ticket for the night's entertainment.

On the water, preparations are underway for the Lady Skippers and Hart Cup races. Volunteers are essential to making these events happen, and we encourage members to get involved.
Thank you to everyone who contributes to our vibrant boating community—your support is what makes the Club thrive.

We are pleased to share that, following the formal vote held on Tuesday night, WMSC members have overwhelmingly supported the re‑unification of Wynnum Manly Sailing Club with Wynnum Manly Yacht Club. This is a significant milestone in bringing our sailing community back together under one unified organisation.

Re‑unification presents an opportunity to streamline governance, improve coordination, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of sailing at WMYC. It will simplify membership structures, improve communications, enable better alignment of resources, and support stronger strategic planning. Importantly, sailing volunteers will now be supported by the Yacht Club’s existing systems and structures, ensuring a more efficient and cohesive approach to delivering sailing programs.

As discussed during the re‑unification information sessions, we are also pleased to confirm that the efficiencies created through this process will allow us to reduce the annual sailing fee to $60 for this year.

We are excited about the opportunity to build on our shared history while strengthening our future as one vibrant, connected club community.

Everything is set for a big night at the Club, with all State of Origin Game 3 prizes now arrived and ready to go. We’re looking forward to another fantastic turnout as we cheer on Queensland together.

For those who are asking about Game 2? Unfortunately, the Clubhouse won't be showing the second match due to an event being held in the venue at that time BUT Game 3 will be going ahead full steam!

We’ve launched a new WMYC Trade Directory to make it easier to connect with trusted, approved contractors for work at the Club.

All contractors in the directory are fully insured, familiar with WMYC requirements, and approved to carry out work on site—so you can be confident you’re using reliable, compliant providers.

As a reminder, any contractor undertaking work at WMYC must be approved and hold Contract Membership under our Trades & Contractors Policy.

If you’re planning works, refits or maintenance, we encourage you to use the directory.

Slipway services are also available through the WMYC Marina, with experienced support on hand.

Browse the directory and plan your next project with confidence

Most Sunday afternoons, we hit the water as part of the SAGS series, a relaxed, friendly pursuit-style racing program enjoyed year-round. Beyond Sundays, WMSC also hosts a variety of race series and regattas across the season, with sailors of all experience levels always welcome to join the action.

The Lady Skippers Race 2026 is fast approaching and - weather willing - will shape up to be another fantastic day on the water. We’re calling on our amazing sailing community to help bring it to life!

Taking place on Sunday 14 June in Moreton Bay, this much-loved event celebrates women at the helm while delivering a fun, inclusive and well-run race experience both on and off the water. Behind every great event is a dedicated team of volunteers—and we’d love you to be part of it.

We’re currently seeking volunteers across a range of roles, including:

As we prepare for our upcoming Art & Music by the Bay Gala, we are seeking volunteers to help bring this special event to life.

This year’s Art Awards are shaping up to be a fantastic celebration of creativity, and we need a helping hand on the night to ensure everything runs smoothly. We are looking for members to assist with setting up the space, selling raffle tickets, and handing out canapés throughout the evening.

In appreciation of your time and support, all volunteers will receive a complimentary ticket to enjoy the event, including entertainment, canapés, and a glass of wine.

It’s a great opportunity to be part of a vibrant club event, meet fellow members, and enjoy the evening while contributing to its success.

If you’re able to assist, we would love to hear from you. Thank you in advance for your support.
