Sailing |Dragon Boating Captain's Parrot Cafe |Marina | Membership | What's On Trade Directory

Dear Members,

After another hectic month, we’re starting to see some real progress around the Clubhouse and grounds.

The building project is all but complete with only some cosmetic and insurance repairs to be dealt with. The roof replacement on the clubhouse after the hailstorm late last year has been completed under the insurance claim and we are now enjoying the benefits of the new solar panels and batteries that have been installed.

It is great to see the shipping container which was previously at the front of the Club now located in a much more suitable position. I want to thank the Manly Dragon Boat Club for all their assistance and cooperation in making this project work and deliver a great solution for all.

We are also well down the track to taking the next step in implementing the master plan that was accepted back in May 2023 – the establishment of a Members Area and the Esplanade Engagement which will connect the café to the Club entrance in a safe and attractive pathway. We hope to share some preliminary diagrams of this project with you before the August AGM.

Speaking of the Annual General Meeting, I once again make a call out for any Members who may be interested in getting involved in the guidance of our Club. Our day-to-day operations are mostly taken care of by our very efficient office staff, but the strategic planning, direction and scope of sailing, social, grounds and marina activities, needs input from Club Members. Taking up a position on the Management Committee, either as a Flag Officer, Sub-Committee Chair or other position is a great way to ensure the Club stays on the right path. If you’re interested, please get in contact with me or the Club office.

I look forward to seeing you around the Club or on the water.

We're pleased to advise members that the first stage of our long-awaited pontoon upgrade project has now been completed.

The works involved important maintenance to the existing pontoon, including the replacement of the walers and fenders, helping to improve the functionality, durability and safety of the facility ahead of future upgrades.

We would like to thank members for their patience and understanding during the temporary closure of the pontoon while contractors carried out the work.

These upgrades represent an important investment in our marine facilities, and we're glad to see this stage completed successfully. We look forward to progressing the next phases of the project and continuing to deliver an improved experience for everyone using our boating facilities.

We would like to recognise and thank Mike Hobbs and John Richardson for their hard work in refreshing the café tables.

The tables have been transformed and look absolutely great, helping to create a more welcoming and enjoyable space for members and guests. Projects like this make a real difference, and we are incredibly grateful for the time and effort Mike and John have contributed.

Thank you both for your outstanding volunteer support of the club.

The next time you're around the Clubhouse pop into the office and come and check out the new official WMYC Gill merchandise range available for purchase!

Members are reminded to register for the upcoming Information Session to learn more about the proposed re-unification between our clubs.

The session will provide an overview of the proposal, outline the potential benefits of re-unification, and offer members the opportunity to ask questions and gain a clearer understanding of what the merger could mean for our clubs and membership.

This is an important opportunity to hear directly about the proposal, seek clarification on any aspects of the plan, and make an informed decision ahead of the upcoming Special General Meeting.

We encourage all members to attend, participate in the discussion, and stay informed throughout this important process.

Download the Information Pack to learn more about the proposal and register for the information session below

Most Sunday afternoons, we hit the water as part of the SAGS series, a relaxed, friendly pursuit-style racing program enjoyed year-round. Beyond Sundays, WMSC also hosts a variety of race series and regattas across the season, with sailors of all experience levels always welcome to join the action.

The Manly Combined Clubs Race 8 & 9  are now set to go ahead this Sunday 2 August, with the race briefing to be held at the Trailer Boat Club. Race 8 was previously postponed due to severe weather conditions.

After racing, competitors, crew and supporters are invited to the WMYC Clubhouse from 4:00pm for the race presentations and a free sausage sizzle.

The earlier postponement was made with the safety of competitors, volunteers and support crews as the highest priority. With conditions now looking more favourable, the MCC Committee is pleased to be able to reschedule the event and get the fleet back on the water.

SAGS

If you're competing in the SAGS series, don't miss out. This race remains an important fixture in the season, with valuable points on offer. SAGS series participants can get average points if they enter the MCC race

We look forward to seeing competitors, families and supporters on the water and at the clubhouse afterwards for race presentations and a sausage sizzle.

See you on Sunday!
