The proposed Special Resolution regarding amendments to the Constitution of Wynnum Manly Yacht Club Inc., originally scheduled for consideration at the General Meeting has been postponed until the Annual General Meeting in August.

This decision provides additional time for members to review the proposed changes and for further consultation to take place. The amendments, which aim to modernise governance, improve clarity, and ensure compliance with legislative requirements, remain an important priority for the Club.

A revised date for consideration of the Special Resolution will be advised in due course. Members are encouraged to continue reviewing the proposed amendments and to direct any questions or feedback to the Management Committee.

Congratulations to Wynnum Manly Sailing Club on receiving a $12,982.38 Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) grant from the Queensland Government. The GCBF provides essential support to not-for-profit community groups, helping enhance services, facilities, and opportunities across Queensland.

This funding will deliver key upgrades for the club, including new flags, buoys, an anemometer, course booklets, safety equipment such as defibrillators and first aid kits, a man overboardtraining mannequin, and an upgraded range finder to support race management.

A special thank you to our Patron, Joan Pease, for her continued support in helping secure this funding. This is a fantastic outcome that will strengthen safety, training, and operations at WMSC.

We’d like to officially introduce the newest addition to WMYC, our brand-new Man Overboard Training Mannequin, here to help sharpen everyone’s skills on the water.

We’re not quite sure what his name is yet… He doesn’t talk much, never argues about sail trim, and has an uncanny talent for ending up overboard.

We’re excited to introduce a premium addition behind the bar — Laphroaig whisky is now available at the Latitude 27 Bar. Known for its rich, smoky flavour and distinctive character, it’s the perfect drop for whisky lovers or anyone looking to try something new.

Come down and enjoy a glass with friends — the bar is open Fridays from 4:30pm and Sundays from 12pm. We’ll also be open from 10am this Sunday for Mother’s Day, making it a great opportunity to treat Mum (and yourself) to something special.

Most Sunday afternoons, we hit the water as part of the SAGS series, a relaxed, friendly pursuit-style racing program enjoyed year-round. Beyond Sundays, WMSC also hosts a variety of race series and regattas across the season, with sailors of all experience levels always welcome to join the action.

 

What a night to remember! WMYC's Texan Night, part of Brisbane Race Week, on Sunday saw around 200 guests turning out for an afternoon and evening packed with great food, live music, and unbeatable atmosphere.

From the moment the BBQ fired up, guests were treated to delicious Low ‘N’ Slow smoked meats, serving up bold flavours and generous plates that didn’t disappoint. The food from Captain's Parrot Cafe was a standout, with plenty of happy diners going back for more.

Tommy Memphis kept the crowd buzzing, bringing his signature mix of rock ’n’ roll and country classics to the stage. His energy and crowd engagement had everyone tapping their boots and soaking up the lively Texan vibe.

The combination of fantastic food and drinks, great entertainment, and a vibrant crowd made for an incredible event, with a great time had by all. Events like this are what Brisbane Race Week is all about—bringing people together for memorable experiences both on and off the water.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make Texan Night such a success.

Brisbane Race Week, presented by Porsche Centre Brisbane, has wrapped up at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron after five days of varied racing formats and strong community participation on Moreton Bay.

Congratulations to all Wynnum Manly Yacht Club boats and crews who represented the club with pride throughout the regatta. Competing across changing conditions, WMYC entrants delivered strong performances against a competitive fleet.

In the Monohull Performance division, Tool Time (Stephen O’Brien) claimed overall PHS honours with an impressive and consistent series. In the Monohull Cruising division, Blackadder (Alexander Grant) secured the overall win after a closely fought week. The regatta also featured WMYC multihull competitor Dog House (Bruce Hume), who completed the series as the sole entry in its division.

Well done to all WMYC participants for showcasing the club both on and off the water. We look forward to seeing you back on the racecourse soon.

DETSI reminds all vessel operators that humpback whale migration season is underway. Masters must maintain a proper lookout in all waters and comply with the Nature Conservation (Animal) Regulation 2020. Vessels must keep at least 100 metres from whales (300 metres for jet skis) and avoid approaching from directly in front or behind. In the event of a collision, report immediately via the QWildlife App, submit the required report form within 24 hours, and notify AMSA with an incident report. Any sightings of injured, distressed, entangled, or deceased whales should be reported via the QWildlife App or by calling 1300 130 372 during business hours.
