Dear Members,
As we wind down after what has been a busy few weeks following the highly successful WMYC Art Awards Exhibition and Gala Night, planning is already underway for our major events in the second half of the year. Keep an eye out for details of some great sailing, cruising and social activities coming up over the next few months.
The coming months will also bring several important milestones essential to the smooth operation of the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club. The Annual General Meetings for both the Club and Marina are fast approaching, and end-of-financial-year preparations are already underway to support these events.
During my fourteen years as a member of WMYC, I have seen the Club precinct evolve to become increasingly reliant on our professional staff. We are fortunate to have outstanding people working in our Club and Marina offices, operating the marina and slipway, maintaining our facilities, and delivering excellent food and beverage services.
Our staff provide exceptional support, but the direction and governance of the Club rely on members who are willing to contribute their time and expertise. We need strong member representation on both the Club Management Committee and the Marina Board.
Several current committee and board members have served in these roles for many years, and some will be looking to step back at the upcoming elections. I encourage all members to consider becoming involved and helping shape the future of our organisation.
There are also opportunities to contribute through our various sub-committees, supporting areas such as Sailing, Cruising and Social activities. If you would like to learn more about these opportunities, please speak with me or the Marina Board Chair, John Cave.
I've been making the most of the fantastic winter weather recently with some enjoyable Sunday afternoon SAGS racing. It's a great opportunity to get out on the water, enjoy some friendly competition and socialise with fellow members. I hope to see you on the water soon.

The WMYC Art Awards wrapped up this week after a fantastic celebration of art, community and creativity!
A huge thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, organisers, catering team and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make the 2026 WMYC Art Awards such a memorable success. From the wonderful food and entertainment to the outstanding exhibition, it was an evening to remember.
Most importantly, congratulations to all the artists who entered. The quality of work on display was exceptional and a true reflection of the incredible talent within our community.

Members are invited to attend the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club Annual General Meeting on Thursday 27 August 2026 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
The AGM is an important opportunity to reflect on the past year, hear updates from across the Club and help shape WMYC's future. Members will receive reports from the Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor and Club divisions, including Cruising, Sailing, Dragon Boats and the Marina Company.
The meeting will also include the presentation of Club Member of the Year and Club Life Membership awards, recognising outstanding contributions to our Club community.
A key part of the evening will be the election of the 2026/2027 Management Committee, Sub-Committee Members and Conduct Committee, providing members with the opportunity to participate in the governance and continued success of WMYC.
We encourage all financial members to attend, stay informed and have their voice heard. Please note that a quorum of 25 financial Full Members is required for the meeting to proceed.
We look forward to welcoming members as we celebrate another successful year and look ahead to an exciting future for WMYC.

Members are invited to attend a Special General Meeting (SGM) on Thursday 27 August 2026 at 6:30pm, prior to the Annual General Meeting, to consider several important resolutions relating to the future of sailing within our Club.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider a proposed transfer of the assets and liabilities of Wynnum Manly Sailing Club Inc to Wynnum Manly Yacht Club Inc, bringing sailing activities under a single Club structure.
Members will be asked to vote on a series of special resolutions covering:
The acceptance of the transfer of assets and liabilities from Wynnum Manly Sailing Club Inc.
The assumption of associated obligations and responsibilities by WMYC.
The admission of eligible Wynnum Manly Sailing Club Inc members into WMYC.
Proposed constitutional amendments to reflect the inclusion of sailing activities and changes to Club governance.
Authorisation for the Management Committee to finalise and execute the necessary agreements and transfer documents.
As these are Special Resolutions, each motion requires a 75% majority of members present and entitled to vote to be carried.
This meeting represents an important milestone in the ongoing development of sailing at WMYC, and we encourage all eligible members to attend and participate in the decision-making process.

We're looking for a few handy volunteers to help give the tables at The Captain's Parrot Café a fresh new look.
The project involves sanding and refinishing the café tables, helping to keep our venue looking its best for members and guests. Whether you can spare a few hours or help across a few sessions, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Volunteering is a great way to contribute to the Club, meet fellow members and help maintain one of WMYC's most popular spaces.

We have a number of used solar panels available free of charge on the Rigging Lawn.
If you can make use of them for a project, caravan, shed or workshop, you're welcome to take them. Panels are available on a first come, first served basis.
Any remaining panels will be disposed of, so don't miss the opportunity to give them a new home. |
Three rings were found outside the café in the car park early last week.
If you, or someone you know, has misplaced a ring (or perhaps several), please contact the Club office.
To claim them, you'll need to describe the rings or, if you can present the One Ring to Rule Them All, we'll know we've found the rightful owner.

Most Sunday afternoons, we hit the water as part of the SAGS series, a relaxed, friendly pursuit-style racing program enjoyed year-round. Beyond Sundays, WMSC also hosts a variety of race series and regattas across the season, with sailors of all experience levels always welcome to join the action.

Members are advised that the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a safety recall for certain Life Jacket Solutions (LJS) and Marlin inflatable lifejackets fitted with a Halkey Roberts 3F Single Point Manual Inflator.
The recall relates to a potential safety defect that may prevent a lifejacket from inflating correctly in an emergency, creating a serious drowning risk.
Affected Lifejackets
The recall applies to the Life Jacket Solutions (LJS): T150M, G150M, B150M, WB100, PR150M and SRSS150 and the Marlin: MK150.
Members should inspect the inflator fitted to their lifejacket. Affected inflators are marked "V96000 Halkey Roberts®" and have a manufacture date between 4 June 2021 and 15 April 2024.
Why Has the Product Been Recalled?
The inflator may incorrectly indicate that the lifejacket is ready for use, even when the gas cylinder is empty, missing or not properly connected. As a result, the lifejacket may fail to inflate when needed.
What Should You Do?
Safety equipment is only effective when it functions correctly. We encourage all members to inspect their lifejackets as soon as possible and share this information with fellow boaters.
