The Club continues to make steady progress both on and off the water, with a busy period ahead for our sailing and social calendar.
Members are reminded of the upcoming General Meeting on 28 May, which will cover a number of important matters for the Club. Your participation is encouraged.
We are also approaching a key milestone in the proposed re-unification of WMYC and WMSC, with the Sailing Club member vote scheduled for 2 June. This is an important step toward strengthening our structure and simplifying how we operate as one club.
Preparations are well underway for the Lady Skippers Race in June, alongside the return of our Art Awards, both of which promise to be highlights of the month.
Around the grounds, progress continues on the ramp and pontoon upgrades, with approvals granted and contractors engaged. We have recently relocated the Dragon Boat Club into the large buoy shed to better support Club operations. A new maintenance shed, now affectionately known as Miller’s Shed, is now in place. We are now ready to remove the old MDBC shed and reposition the container. These changes, supported significantly by the Dragon Boat Club, will improve functionality and the overall presentation of the Club.

Exciting progress continues on the proposed re‑unification of Wynnum Manly Yacht Club (WMYC) and Wynnum Manly Sailing Club (WMSC), an initiative aimed at bringing our clubs back together under a single, stronger banner.
Originally established in 1997 as a separate entity, WMSC has played an important role in supporting our sailing activities. However, over time, operating as two organisations has introduced additional administrative complexity, increased costs, and placed growing demands on a limited volunteer base.
Re‑unification presents an opportunity to streamline governance, improve coordination, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of sailing at WMYC.
The proposal offers a range of benefits including simplified membership structures, improved communications, better alignment of resources, and enhanced strategic planning. Importantly, it also allows sailing volunteers to be supported by the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club’s existing systems and structures, ensuring a more efficient and cohesive approach to delivering sailing programs.
To support member understanding, two information sessions have already been held, both attracting strong participation from interested WMSC members and generating valuable discussion and feedback.
The next step in this process is a formal vote by Wynnum Manly Sailing Club members, scheduled for 2 June 2026. Subject to a successful outcome, the matter will then be presented to Wynnum Manly Yacht Club members for consideration shortly thereafter.
We are excited by the opportunity to bring the clubs together once again under a unified brand, building on our shared history while strengthening our future as one vibrant, connected club community.

We’re pleased to share some exciting news for members—the ramp and pontoon upgrade project has now received final approval and is ready to commence.
After progressing through the required planning stages, approvals from all relevant agencies have now been secured. Importantly, our landlord, the Department of Transport & Main Roads, has converted their approval in principle into full approval to proceed with the works.
We have engaged Marine Structures to deliver the project, and preparations are now underway to begin construction.
These upgrades represent an important investment in the Club’s infrastructure, improving access, functionality and the overall experience for members and visitors using our waterfront facilities.
We will continue to keep members informed as works progress and thank you in advance for your patience during the construction period.

We’ve launched a new WMYC Trade Directory to make it easier to connect with trusted, approved contractors for work at the Club.
All contractors in the directory are fully insured, familiar with WMYC requirements, and approved to carry out work on site—so you can be confident you’re using reliable, compliant providers.
As a reminder, any contractor undertaking work at WMYC must be approved and hold Contract Membership under our Trades & Contractors Policy.
If you’re planning works, refits or maintenance, we encourage you to use the directory.
Slipway services are also available through the WMYC Marina, with experienced support on hand.

Most Sunday afternoons, we hit the water as part of the SAGS series, a relaxed, friendly pursuit-style racing program enjoyed year-round. Beyond Sundays, WMSC also hosts a variety of race series and regattas across the season, with sailors of all experience levels always welcome to join the action.

Dragon boating is a fun and social way to stay active, meet great people, and enjoy the stunning Bayside environment—no experience needed.

Entries are now open for the 2026 Wivenhoe Winter Marathon, taking place on Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 June at Lake Wivenhoe (Logan’s Inlet).
This popular event is open to all off-the-beach sailcraft, including skiffs, dinghies, catamarans, trimarans, windsurfers and trailer sailers—making it a fantastic weekend for sailors of all types looking for a winter challenge.
Accommodation & Facilities
Camping is available at Captain Logan’s Campground, with facilities including toilets, hot showers, a camp kitchen and BBQ areas. Competitors need to be self-sufficient, with nearby towns providing supplies.

$85 (both days)
$45 (single day)

Southport Yacht Club’s upcoming winter events offer something for every sailor, with three key races scheduled across June.
On 6 June, offshore crews can take on the Flat Rock Yacht Race, a challenging coastal course and a highlight of the offshore calendar. On the same day, the Crab Island Classic provides a more relaxed inshore option, open to keelboats and off-the-beach cats.
Rounding out the month, the TK Robertson Trophy Race on 28 June welcomes off-the-beach dinghy sailors, including both junior and senior competitors.
Crews are encouraged to get involved and be part of a strong winter racing program.

The Little Ship Club is set to host the Australian Eagles Show on Saturday 6 June, bringing a full live performance of Hotel California to the waterfront at Dunwich as part of its popular Bands on the Bay series.
Celebrating 50 years of the iconic album, the show will feature two live sets—including a complete performance of Hotel California followed by a selection of Eagles’ greatest hits.
Set against the backdrop of Moreton Bay, the event offers a relaxed, open-air afternoon of live music, with additional entertainment from Dave Ritter and a range of food options available throughout the day.
With capacity limited, members and guests are encouraged to book a spot on the grass and enjoy a great day of live music on Straddie.
