Dear Members,
It has been great to see a whole lot of activity around the Club again over the last couple of weeks. The staging of another successful Lady Skippers Race event last weekend was once again a great testimony to the good planning and hard work put in by our office staff, hospitality workers and Sailing Club volunteers, both on and off the water. The same efforts over the past few months are evidenced by the WMYC Art Awards exhibition that commences today and culminates with the Art Gala Night on Saturday 27th June. I urge you all to visit the exhibition – you might find a piece that will look great in your home.
It is probably a prudent time for us all to consider how we interact with those who are volunteering their time to help stage these events, and also the paid staff around the Club. We are all striving to deliver the facilities, events and services that support the membership in the best possible way and help the Club grow. But like any organisation we will always acknowledge improvements can be made in our processes. We welcome any feedback and suggestions, but I just urge this communication be done in a considerate, constructive and collaborative manner.
We also need to acknowledge that sometimes our staff and workers are at the Club on their own time to participate in the social and sailing events being held. This personal time should be respected. We have avenues available through the Club website for the reporting of any operational issues that need attention and the office can be contacted via phone, email or in person during business hours Monday to Friday.
I hope you all get an opportunity to enjoy the bay over the winter season - I’m hearing whales have already been spotted in the bay. I look forward to seeing many of you around the Club.

 The wait is over! The WMYC Art Awards exhibition officially opens today, transforming Wynnum Manly Yacht Club's waterfront clubhouse into a stunning gallery celebrating the beauty, character and spirit of our bayside community.
From 19 June to 2 July, members and visitors can explore an inspiring collection of nautical-themed artworks, featuring everything from seascapes and sailing scenes to local landmarks and coastal life. Best of all, every visit offers a different experience, with artworks available to purchase and the opportunity to vote for your favourite piece in the People's Choice Award.
Be sure to mark your calendar and get your tickets for the Art & Music by the Bay Gala Awards Night on Friday 27 June, when artists, members and guests will gather to celebrate the exhibition and discover this year's award winners as the sun sets over the marina with stunning music from award-winning composer Salliana Seven.
Adding even more colour to the exhibition, acclaimed Wynnum artist Graham W. Smith will be giving a live watercolours demonstration at The Captain's Parrot Café on 19, 20, 21 and 27 June from 10.30am -1.30pm throughout the exhibition. Watch a master watercolour artist at work, learn about his creative process, and see local scenes come to life on the page.

WMYC welcomes professional contractors who support our members with maintenance, repairs and refit projects throughout the marina.
To receive FOB access to work independently on members' vessels at WMYC, contractors are required to hold Associate Contractor Membership in accordance with the Club Constitution and Trades & Contractors Policy. This ensures all contractors are appropriately registered, insured, familiar with Club requirements, and approved to operate on site.
All WMYC contractor members are vetted and listed in our WMYC Trade Directory of Trusted Contractors, giving members confidence that they are engaging reliable, compliant professionals.
Recently, there have been instances of contractors using borrowed FOBs issued to members. Please note that member FOBs must not be shared. Contractors requiring site access must obtain their own Associate Contractor Membership and FOB. Alternatively, they must escorted by the boat owner and provide their certificate of currency to the Marina or Club Office.
If a contractor has been engaged to work on a vessel at WMYC, we encourage them to join as an Associate Contractor Member and take advantage of being included in our trusted contractor directory.

When it comes to boating safety, there's no substitute for practice.
WMYC members and non-members can now book Ruth the Mannequin, our dedicated crew-overboard training mannequin, to help crews develop and refine their man-overboard recovery procedures in a realistic environment.
Whether you're preparing for offshore racing, cruising with family and friends, or simply wanting to improve your emergency response skills, regular crew-overboard drills are one of the most valuable safety exercises you can undertake. Practising with a weighted mannequin provides a far more realistic experience than using a fender or buoy and helps crews better understand the challenges involved in locating, approaching and recovering a person from the water.
Ruth is available for use and is suitable for training exercises, safety days and crew development sessions.
We encourage all skippers and crews to make crew-overboard practice a regular part of their boating routine. The skills learned during training could one day make all the difference in a real emergency.

As we prepare for our upcoming Art & Music by the Bay Gala, we are seeking volunteers to help bring this special event to life.
This year’s Art Awards are shaping up to be a fantastic celebration of creativity, and we need a helping hand on the night to ensure everything runs smoothly. We are looking for members to assist with setting up the space, selling raffle tickets, and handing out canapés throughout the evening.
In appreciation of your time and support, all volunteers will receive a complimentary ticket to enjoy the event, including entertainment, canapés, and a glass of wine.
It’s a great opportunity to be part of a vibrant club event, meet fellow members, and enjoy the evening while contributing to its success.

Most Sunday afternoons, we hit the water as part of the SAGS series, a relaxed, friendly pursuit-style racing program enjoyed year-round. Beyond Sundays, WMSC also hosts a variety of race series and regattas across the season, with sailors of all experience levels always welcome to join the action.

The 2026 Lady Skippers Race was a fantastic success, bringing together an incredible fleet and community for a memorable day on the water. With 24 boats competing for the Overall PHS title and 5 boats contesting the All Female Crew division, the event showcased both strong competition and outstanding sportsmanship.
A special congratulations goes to Mad Mumm, skippered by Danica Streader, who delivered an exceptional performance to take out both the Overall PHS and All Female Crew trophies – a brilliant achievement and a proud moment for the event.
We also celebrate the future of sailing, with the Youth Skipper award going to Sienna Hume aboard Doghouse, highlighting the talent and confidence of the next generation of skippers.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the day possible; Participants – for your enthusiasm, competitiveness and camaraderie on the water; Volunteers – for your time, energy and behind-the-scenes support; and Race organisers and officials – for delivering a smooth, safe and enjoyable event
Events like the Lady Skippers Race are only successful because of the dedication and passion of our sailing community. It was a wonderful celebration of skill, teamwork and the growing presence of women in sailing.
We look forward to seeing everyone back on the start line next year!

Planning is well underway for this year’s Hart Cup, and we’re calling on all skippers and crews to get involved in what promises to be a fantastic weekend of sailing and socialising.
At present, we have 5 boats entered, and we’d love to see that number grow. Whether you’re racing or prefer a more relaxed cruise, there’s an opportunity for everyone to take part.
The Hart Cup (including the Cruise division) will kick off with a briefing on Friday 26 June, followed by racing on Saturday 27 June.
There’s also good news for those heading up to Mooloolaba. The sandbar at the entrance has been dredged, now offering 2.4m depth at LAT, making for a more accessible and comfortable entry.
Race entries are now open in SailSys – jump online and secure your place. If you need more information or assistance with entry, please contact Stephen Bowering directly.
Cruising entries are also encouraged, so if racing isn’t your focus, you can still be part of the event—please contact Graeme to register your interest.
We’re also seeking volunteers for the Hart Cup (early start). Sylvia will be Race Officer and would greatly appreciate assistance with Committee Boat duties. If you can lend a hand, please get in touch, your support is vital to making the event run smoothly.

The next Manly Combined Clubs Race is set for Sunday, 21 June, and it’s shaping up to be another fantastic day out on the harbour.
This is your chance to pitch your boat and crew against other clubs in a friendly but competitive atmosphere. Whether you’re looking to test your racing skills, enjoy a great day on the water, or connect with fellow sailors across the harbour, this event delivers it all.
If you’re competing in the SAGS series, don’t miss out, average points will be allocated for this race, making it an important fixture in your season.

Seahaus Pty Ltd has applied for a marine park permit in the Moreton Bay Marine Park. The application seeks approval for the installation and operation of a permanently moored offshore tourism facility and associated tourism activities. Activities proposed to be authorised under the application include operation of a facility, a tourism program, vessel charter operations, and associated marine-based tourism, recreational and educational activities, including day use and overnight stays. The proposed facility is located offshore of Tangalooma Point, Moreton Island, within the Moreton Bay Marine Park.
